4 Healthy and Fast Breakfast Ideas
Everyone has heard the old adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but have you ever wondered why? Here’s 4 Tips with answers to why and breakfast ideas to start your day off right:
1. Click here for Sarah Jenks’ article on the importance of breakfast, and a metabolism boosting oatmeal you’ll love.
2. I love to start my mornings with toast (I recommend Ezekiel Bread, sesame is my favorite but there are a ton of whole grain varieties available at your local health food store and Trader Joe’s. Ezekiel is packed with fiber, protein and healthy grains). Top your toast with any of the following:
*Smart Balance Light Butter
*Your favorite natural jam or preserves (stick to the serving size!)
*Almond or cashew butter (raw, unsalted, organic)
*Sounds odd but tastes delicious, low fat or fat free ricotta with your favorite jam or preserves
3. Egg White Omelettes (sautee any veggies for 2-3 minutes with fat free cooking spray, then add eggs. Takes 5-7 minutes)
REMINDER: I always recommend saving time by chopping up some veggies in the beginning of the week and storing them in tupperware or ziplocs for easy access and quick cooking throughout the week!
*spinach, tomato, onion and low fat mozzarella
*mushrooms, onions and peppers
*black beans, corn, tomato (if you use canned black beans, rinse them first!)
*unsalted ham, turkey bacon, turkey sausage and low fat cheese (least healthy of all options and potential for high sodium if you can’t find unsalted versions)
4. Low Fat or Fat Free Greek Yogurt (plain or vanilla) with the in season fresh fruit of your choice.
