I Have an Issue With Fitness Fads & it’s Bigger Than Kim Kardashian’s Booty

This week I’m fired up about fitness fads, celebrity spokespeople and a major issue that needs to be stopped in its tracks.  While I could go on for days about sh*tty products on the market that lure people in but don’t get results-I’m going to stick to the ONE whose commercials had me screaming at the TV last week.

Stop flushing your money down the toilet.  In today’s video I’ll tell you what to avoid.

For more info, check out this WSJ Article citing clinical research that proves the benefits are marginal at best  I like this article because it also includes references to the company sponsored research done by Skechers, Reebok and MBT among others.

Are you with me? Think I’m over reacting?  Your comments are valuable, leave them below…

Loved your honesty in this video. =)

Our shortcut society is GREAT for companies/brands…bad for the people who buy into the hype. It’s the “drive-thru” mentality — people want to be fit NOW. People shouldn’t expect to slack off at work and get promoted. Same thing with fitness.

    • Liz DiAlto

It especially makes me angry when the expense is their health, long or short term. People hurt themselves or mess up their metabolisms all the time. Grr…

      Thanks for your comment Vanessa!

  • Chante

I love this! So true there are no short cuts. I have a question for you Liz. What do you think of Crossfit as a way to get in shape. Yes? No? And why? It seems like it has become really popular and I would like to hear what your opinion is.

    • Liz DiAlto

Chante, people keep asking me about Crossfit and I have to say I’ve never tried it. A good friend of mine was telling me about the workouts and even showed me a few and I love the intensity factor-I’d just be super mindful of form. From what I hear you’re always up against a clock, it’s easy to get hurt when you’re trying to rush. If you try it out let me know!

  • Michelle

AMEN!!!!! I hate those shoes. First of all, they look ridiculous. Second, Have you ever picked up a pair? They feel like 5 lb dumbbells. May as well do bicep curls with those “beauties.”

    • Liz DiAlto

Michelle, that’s so funny-no I haven’t but what a great alternative use for people who would rather not wear them 😛

  • Erica

There you go again with all of your awesome-ness! Loved how fired up you got about this topic. Glad you found the cold hard facts to back up your rant. I will NEVER give up my trainer…I’d miss all the compliments I get 🙂

    • Liz DiAlto

Well deserved compliments for busting your butt!

  • Cheryl Chavarria

AWESOME RAW FOOTAGE GIRL! I am bad because I was gonna go buy these shoes ’cause this girl ain’t got no booty! I’m gonna admit…I’ve not been taking the best care of myself as far as sleep, diet and MOS DEF exercise is concerned. Big reason why I’ve been sick for a week with a sinus infection! I really appreciate this message! Gonna share it for sure! Love your energy girl! (P.S. I never use these many exclamation points, so you did it for me)

    • Liz DiAlto

Cheryl thanks for this comment-sparked an idea: Booty Boosting Exercises for the Posteriorly Challenged! Keep an eye out in the next few weeks 🙂

  • Heather

Amen sister! Love you on camera, Liz – I saw you post about this on facebook last week and it made me laugh out loud and couldn’t wait for this video. Let’s not forget that those shoes are friggin’ hideous on top of the fact that they don’t make your ass any tighter!

    • Liz DiAlto

you should have seen some of the clips I edited out…I was extra pissed because I used to give Kim K props for making a career out of having a huge ass, I’m a member of that club and celebrate it to the fullest. Khloe is my new favorite Kardashian.

  • Amanda

Love your spice, Liz! You tell ’em!

    • Liz DiAlto

      Thanks Amanda!

  • Sarah

Amen. Short cut society – biggest issue in our culture. I totally applaud you for calling out the facade associated with these celebrity-paid sponsorships. What’s also annoying is how they pay celebrities tons of money to falsely represent a quick-buck product, when a company could invest the same $, and have a strong positive influence on a similar audience. Just think, if Kim and Brooke were paid to advertise their lifestyles that keep them fit and sexy, people would say, “oh, so it isn’t even easy for celebrities either! They have to work for it too?” Here’s to hoping it will someday happen…

    • Liz DiAlto

I was thinking the same thing Sarah. I guess Kim did her part by making workout DVDs called “Fit in your Jeans By Friday”…another great mentality. NOT!

  • Karie Hill

Thank you , Liz!! Besides being ineffective, those son of a b’s are UGLY! Way to give it to us straight. I love the “you have to do the work!” no bullsh*t approach. I don’t think we hear that enough.

  • Jean

    It’s called, ‘Truth in advertising’!
Thanks for keepin’ it real, Sistah!

    • Liz DiAlto

      always 🙂

  • Christian Finn

We had the ads for the Reebok toning shoes here in the UK and they were banned on the basis that the advertising standards people considered them “misleading.”

    • Liz DiAlto

That’s amazing. That’s a major gripe I have with the US, our regulating bodies are more concerned about big business rather than the people it’s misleading.

  • Kelsea

    I <3 you 😉

  • kimberly

hey bschool sista! i totally agree! I’m glad you spoke out about these stupid shoes! ever since they came out I have known they were a bunch of bs. it’s amazing to me how people actually believe they could make a difference and not mess up your back alignment. anyways, kudos to you! love your site!
