How to Not Get Fat Over the Holidays (Part I)
You’ve probably heard the old adage, “Failing to plan is planning to fail”…in fact you’ve probably read it on this blog before because I love it-it’s so freaking true.
Here’s the first half of a simple list of Do’s and Don’ts to preserve your energy and your waistline so you can kick off 2013 without feeling bloated or guilty.
DON’T be a jerk…to yourself that is. Be conscious of your thoughts as you make choices this holiday season. If you overindulge, enjoy it. Beating yourself up is a total waste of time. Instead get a great night’s sleep, drink 2-3L of water the next day, get back on your clean eating habits, and put in a killer workout.
DO be a picky snob…when it comes to your indulgences. If you take a bite of something that’s anything less than an orgasm in your mouth, you have my permission (and hopefully your own, too) not to finish it. I’m not a big calorie counter, but that’s just a waste. Save your splurges for things that make you do this.
DON’T use excuses. I’m from the East Coast. I know how cold and miserable Nov and Dec can be. I also know how busy it gets with all the parties, holiday shopping, and etc. There are a million excuses not to go to the gym. There are also a million workout videos on YouTube, many that don’t even require equipment or much space. Here’s a few examples. You may even find that you love working out at home and would rather save $ every month by canceling your gym membership. #WIN
DO be diligent about getting 8 hours of sleep per night. The holidays tend to be a more-stressful-than-usual time of year. Prioritizing sleep will get your body the daily repair it needs to not pack on the lbs.
Now I want to hear from you-have you successfully avoided holiday weight gain in the past? Tell us in the comments how you did it!
