What is "The Erotic"?

A sacred essence and holy force that lives within us, guides us, and moves us toward truer, deeper, more meaningful connection, expression, and experience in Life.

Everything has a higher and lower essence, and here I am speaking about the higher essence of The Erotic, which is what this experience aims to activate and cultivate.

The higher essence of The Erotic goes so far beyond the popular oversimplification of the term, which is primarily sexual or pornographic. It is creative, spiritual, and deeply personal. It's a sacred yes that lives in our bodies and bones. It's a call from a trustworthy, mysterious, but also divinely practical place that invites us into right and life-giving actions, behaviors, and choices.

In Audre Lorde’s words, The Erotic is “a well of replenishing and provocative force…firmly rooted in the power of our unexpressed or unrecognized feeling.”

It is also the feminine face of Eros, which is not confined to love or pleasure for the sake of each, but expands us into the truths that live within them. The kind of truths that illuminate our deepest knowing and our most exhilarating alignment.

The Erotic is medicine for those who are willing to listen to its whispers and release all conditioned, distorted, and preconceived notions about it.

Eros (from ancient Greek and root of erotic) is the life force itself. It's the desire to merge, create, connect, and return to the Divine through embodied experience.

The Erotic is a compass, showing us what is true, what is worth our energy, what is sacred, and what bridges us into wholeness—not just within ourselves, but for humanity.

The Erotic, is not frivolous, indulgent, or even worse in so many eyes, sinful. It is a source of power that has been suppressed, distorted, and commodified.

Therefore, connecting to the essence of The Erotic within you, and finding your own dynamic expressions and embodiment of it are wild and holy acts of healing and liberation.

What is "The Erotic Body"?

So much more than words can truly articulate, but here are some to at least give us a starting place: A sacred vessel. A source of guidance. A field of power and remembering.

Just like Eckhart Tolle describes the Pain Body as an energetic residue of unhealed trauma and suffering, the Erotic Body is an energetic expression of our aliveness, desire, intuition, and sacred pleasure.

It is the part of us that reminds us of the full magnificence of being in a body. It's not about objectification or performance, but about intimacy, connection, and creativity. And again, I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH, the intimacy, connection, and creativity here are not just sexual or romantic intimacy, and not just between people who are sexually active or attracted to each other.

Everybody has an Erotic Body and a call to be intimate with Life in a variety of ways: through nature and the elements, energy, relationships, the Divine, the self, Ancestors, art, music, movement...the list is never ending.

The Erotic Body carries ancestral, sensual, emotional, and spiritual wisdom. When suppressed, it calls us back through struggles and discomfort, such as feeling numb, resentful, disconnected, disappointed, overfunctioning, or depleted.

When activated, it heals these separations and disconnections, reintegrates our power, and aligns us with soul, purpose, meaning, and direction.

It can truly be a magical companion, guide, and guardian on any sacred path, and don't we know we're living in times when our souls recognize the need for this energy!

Why Earth + Eros?

Earth grounds us. She is the body we all belong to. She teaches us cycles, rhythm, rootedness, and restoration. She also reminds us that chaos, death, and destruction are part of the process.

Eros animates us. It is the force that drives our desires, our creativity, our longing to connect with Life and the Divine.

Together, Earth + Eros is an invitation to fully inhabit your body and your soul, root into presence and power, and let these be your foundation.

This session invites you to engage The Erotic as a spiritual path and an embodied practice.

In a culture that profits from our disconnection, Earth + Eros is a portal into the sacred where the pleasure of existing is a form of prayer, and moving with devotion invites the type of healing, growth, and transformation the mind alone could never access.

This is a doorway into a realm worth exploring, whether you have any desire afterward to go deeper or not.

Uses Of The Erotic: The Erotic As Power

"The principal horror of any system which defines the good in terms of profit rather than in terms of human need, or which defines human need to the exclusion of the psychic and emotional components of that need - the principal horror of such a system is that it robs our work of its erotic value, its erotic power and life appeal and fulfillment. Such a system reduces work to a travesty of necessities, a duty by which we earn bread or oblivion for ourselves and those we love. But this is tantamount to blinding a painter and then telling her to improve her work, and to enjoy the act of painting. It is not only next to impossible, it is also profoundly cruel. As women, we need to examine the ways in which our world can be truly different. I am speaking here of the necessity for reassessing the quality of all the aspects of our lives and of our work, and of how we move toward and through them. The very word erotic comes from the Greek word eros, the personification of love in all its aspects - born of Chaos, and personifying creative power and harmony. When I speak of the erotic, then, I speak of it as an assertion of the lifeforce of women; of that creative energy empowered, the knowledge and use of which we are now reclaiming in our language, our history, our dancing, our loving, our work, our lives."

How It Will Work

This session is mostly movement-based.

As always, we'll open up with a prayer and invocation to all our Guides, Ancestors, and Divine Support. We'll set our intentions and have a short discussion about Earth + Eros.

The rest of our time we'll focus on moving beyond the physical and activating your Erotic Body through dynamic, sensual movement brought to life with a themed playlist (which I'll send you along with the recording the day after).

The point is to have you experiencing your body in loving and liberating ways. Part guided movement, part intuitive free movement, you'll get to feel both held and empowered in your own essence and embodiment of The Erotic. You'll activate the sacred memory in your cells that reminds you how to move and be and see and feel in a world that constantly tries to drag you out of your peace, your truth, your wisdom, and the alignment that's only possible when you know how to return to these anchor points.
