In Part I of How to Not Get Fat Over The Holidays I gave you some simple Do’s and Don’ts.  In Part II, I only have one and it’s a big DO.

DO Enjoy “Healthier” alternatives to your traditional holiday favorites.

I scoured the interwebs for some amazing alternative recipes for you.

#1. Skip the Egg Nog and opt for the Nutritional Style Chai

My dear friend, the gorgeous Holli Thompson made this delicious wintery beverage for ABC TV’s Let’s Talk Live and the hosts loved it.  Click here for the recipe.

#2. Skip the sweet potatoes with marshmellows (which I confess, is my favorite holiday side!) and go for Well Fed’s Velvety Butternut Squash

I stumbled upon Melissa Joulwan’s blog theclothesmakethegirl.com and her paleo cookbook Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat a few months ago.  Her family history is rich with cooking culture and great ideas, I highly recomment the book!

Here’s the recipe for Velvety Butternut Squash

…and 9 more Thanksgiving sides she recommends.

#3. Skip the white mashed potatoes laden with cream and cheese and surprise and delight your guests with Whole9 Life’s Rosemary Mashed Fauxtatoes.

How freaking delicious does that look? I bet you can swap these out for the normal mashed potatoes and no one would even know (if you pull this off successfully, let me know!)

The recipe is here, along with several other Healthy Whole9 Thanksgiving ideas.
