This week we’re celebrating Episode 400 of the Embodied Podcast! I can’t tell you all how much I appreciate your time, your love and your community over these last 400 episodes. It’s been a labor of love, joy, and what I call holy consistency over the years.

Just a few days ago, on my 39th birthday, inside the Wild Soul Sacred body Community, many of our members shared what the community and the podcast have taught them about life, spirituality, self-love, and coming home to themselves. It meant so much to me, not just because of the out-pouring of love, but also because it captures so clearly what I want this space to be: a healing, grounded, no-bullshit community where we can find and explore our true selves, cultivate more personal relationships with the divine, and learn to appreciate our bodies for a million reasons aside from how they look.

While there’s a sea of shallow “spiritual influencers” selling cookie-cutter ideal lifestyles you could be listening to, I’m so grateful you’re here, and that you’re also about collective healing, joy, and liberation.

In this upcoming season, I’ll be exploring joy and the way that joy is instrumental in our continued liberation. I want to remind you to keep reaching out for joy, to keep searching for the things that bring you deep and encompassing joy, and to practice the holy consistency that helps to feel joy and create a full, beautiful life for yourself.

We have some amazing guests exploring joy with us lined up for this season. Looking forward to our next 400 episodes!

Quotes from this Week’s Episode of the Embodied Podcast:

      • [00:02:57] Volume is not always the most soulful metric of success or impact, especially for fierce, loving and mystical people, which is what wild souls are.

      • [00:05:51] Being a mystic is for everyone who wants a relationship with the divine or everyone who wants a spiritual practice or has a spiritual practice.

      • [00:07:32] I have found over the course of the years that the more I talk about God and the more I invite people into their own direct, mystical experiences and to build their own spiritual practice and relationship, the richer and more beautiful and deeper and more impactful the healing work I’m here to do actually is.

      • [00:08:41] And the point of that is to always be encouraging you to be the most YOU you could possibly be, right? Like I’m out here being the most me I could possibly be. And that’s not to say you all should be living like I’m living or making the choices I’m making. It’s about illuminating things to help you find your own map, build your own map, or maybe follow some of the steps that you listen to or hear or learn here.

      • [00:09:50] When me or my guests talk about things that might be possible for you but might be a different route for you to get there, your path is always going to be super valid, very important, unique to you, and just as great as anyone else’s path.

      • [00:10:58] If there’s anything you could ever take from any of these damn podcast episodes, it’s just to always remember there’s good, valuable stuff here, but your life is good and valuable and important just as much as anyone else that’s on a platform or that has a platform.

      • [00:14:45] I really believe that no matter how much shitty stuff is going on in the world or in our own lives, it is so, so important to prioritize joy, to make room for joy, to make room for celebration. Even when we’re grieving or suffering in any way, whether it’s physically, mentally or emotionally, even a tiny sliver of joy is available to us in our darkest and our hardest moments.

      • [00:16:15] We work with reality to get ourselves to a place where the reality we’re experiencing just doesn’t leave a lot of room for the shitty stuff. […] It just can’t go as deep or fester the way it used to because there’s nothing for it to really like, root into the way it used to be able to.

About the Embodied Podcast with Elizabeth DiAlto

Since 2013 I’ve been developing a body of work that helps women embody self-love, healing, and wholeness. We do this by focusing on the four levels of consciousness – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

In practical terms, this looks like exploring tools and practices to help you tune into the deep wisdom of the body and the knowing of the heart, which I believe are gateways to our souls. Then we cultivate a new relationship with our minds that allows the mind to serve this wisdom and knowledge and soul connection, rather than override it, which is what many of us were taught.

If you’ve been doing self-help or spiritual development work for a while, these are the types of foundational things that often people overlook in pursuit of fancier concepts that often aren’t practical or sustainable. Here, we will focus on building these strong foundations so you can honestly and thoroughly embody self-love. If you’re feeling it, subscribe to the show, and leave us a review wherever you listen from. You can also keep up with show updates and community discussion on Instagram here.

Transcript for Episode 400 “Looking back on 400 Episodes and Looking Forward to Joy:

Hello, everybody. Welcome to episode number 400 of the “Embodied Podcast”. I’m so excited to be hitting this milestone and sometimes, I really can’t believe I’m just diving right in, I was making myself a bunch of notes. I’m actually rerecording this podcast because I recorded it last week, totally thinking it was coming out on the 19th instead of the 26th. For those of you listening in real time, it’s September 26th, 2022. And I said all these date-specific things that were relevant if this episode was coming out on September 19th and I’m sharing that with you, because it’s just so funny to me that I have been literally doing this freaking podcast for such a long time, and I’m still occasionally doing crap like that. So, you know me, I’m always a big advocate for there’s no such thing as perfectionism. So there’s one example for you. And the second example, if you’re watching this on YouTube, is I’m recording this episode from my bed today. I’m like, “I dunno if I’ve ever done that before!” And I just also wanna remind people, in your life, I’m gonna make a note at the end of the episode about consistency and what I call holy consistency, but in your life as you do your own healing and liberation work, remember to be liberating yourself from the things that people have told you and convinced you are professional. And if you’re listening, I put professional in air quotes because I have to tell you the quality of this podcast is not affected by where the hell I’m sitting in my apartment when I record it. Sometimes the audio quality could be, but I record it at my desk usually which is like right across the room in the same area, so that’s not it. So anyway, it’s okay to do things for yourself where you’re comfortable, where you could be filled with joy, where you could be the most you, no matter what it is. And listen, I know, you know, I’m working from home, I’m recording my own podcast. The context is a little different, but you know, put it in whatever your own context is and see like where do the edges of your own comfort, your own delight, your own joy for stuff like that, you know?

So I was also jotting down some notes for this episode. And I had this thought that I wanted to share, which is probably something I’ve shared before in a different way. But sometimes, I really can’t believe how many more people resonate with like really gross and shallow, ego-driven, capitalistic, and white supremacist shit on the internet, when I know so many incredibly magical, genuinely honest, masterful, and high-integrity people who get way less traction and attention. But then I zoom out and remember that volume, right? Volume, not being sound volume, but like quantity volume is not always the most soulful metric of success or impact, especially for fierce, loving, and mystical people, which is what wild souls are. So for those of you tuning in in real time here, the applications for my “Sacred Embodiment Specialist Training” are officially open. You can go to untameyourself.com/training if you’re someone who’s ever wanted to really deepen your own personal embodiment practice, you know, like a lot of people take yoga teacher trainings to just learn more about yoga. So if you want to deepen your own personal embodiment tools and practices, you could apply for the training if that interests you as a way to have a deep dive and a really intensive, immersive experience with me and some other really amazing women. Or if you are some kind of healing or helping professional or a person who would love to have a side gig of doing healing and embodiment work, if you’re someone who would like to integrate healing and embodiment into what you already do, it’s an incredible training. It’s a 14-month training. I love running this thing so much and it’s the most comprehensive training I’ve ever created. So again, you can apply for that at untameyourself.com/training. There’s also still plenty of space in the “November Self-Love Weekend” that I’m running in person here in Miami or you can live stream it from wherever you are. It’s Saturday and Sunday, November 5th and 6th and you could get all of that information at untameyourself.com/self-love-weekends. Or you can just go to the show notes page, untameyourself.com/400 and all of those links will be listed there.

So on my birthday this year, I wanted a quiet day. I didn’t answer any calls. I spent a good bit of time meditating, pulling cards, reading, doing some year-in-review type stuff. And in episode 398, I shared 39 lessons in 39 years, so if you haven’t listened to that episode I got a ton of messages from people saying that they listened more than once, they took notes, even some of my close friends. My community, Marjolaine, also made a really beautiful post in the Wild Soul Sacred Body community inviting people to share what they’ve learned from me over the years. I balled my eyes out reading that and I’m sharing that because from boundaries, embodiment, self-love, and learning how to create their own relationships with the divine, as well as really build a resonant spiritual practice for their own souls. My women shared so many things. I am so happy that we talk about on the podcast all the time, in my solo episodes, in interviews, when we talk to other people. Weaving liberation work in with being a mystic is like my favorite frigging thing to do and a reminder that being a mystic is for everyone who wants a relationship with the divine or everyone who wants a spiritual practice, or has a spiritual practice.

And I say that because I often will reference being a mystic and that’s not meant to be any kind of like superior or portray myself, or anyone else for that matter who defines themselves or identifies as a mystic to be like a more evolved or enlightened being. It’s just about how we relate to God if that’s what you call it and if not, call it whatever the hell you wanna call it, all right? But I’ll paraphrase, Caroline Myss, some of you know, my beloved Caroline, never met her, never talked to her, but she’s really like my best mentor in my whole life. She’s one of my favorite mystics and she describes mystics as people who are more interested in having direct experience of God than talking about God. And I usually describe it simply, as those who have a direct relationship with the divine, unlike how it is in some religions where some kind of priest or officiants are regarded as the only ones who can have that, and then everyone else has to go through the priest or the authority figure, whatever it is in the specific religion. And this is not to say that religious people can’t be mystics. Plenty of them are. So I just wanted to drop that note here because that’s just something that actually, many years ago, the business coach I was working with told me that I shouldn’t be talking about God in my work. And I have found over the course of the years that the more I talk about God and the more I invite people into their own direct mystical experiences, and to build their own spiritual practice and relationship, the richer and more beautiful and deeper and more impactful the healing work I’m here to do actually is. Because personally, I’ve seen it, I know some of you have experienced it as well. Some of you might be on the cusp at trying to perhaps, open yourself up to experience this or curious to see what might be possible for you.

You know, there is a saying with God, “All things are possible”. Listen, I just find with God, more things are possible and it’s so much easier when I invite God into the experience, than when I try to do shit on my own. So this is always one of my biggest goals, to always be bringing back, bringing things back to reminding you, to put it in your own context, have your own experience, see what resonates, ditch what doesn’t. And the point of that is to always be encouraging you to be the most you, you could possibly be, right? Like I’m out here being the most me I could possibly be. And that’s not to say things like, “You all should be living like I’m living or making the choices I’m making,” ’cause I don’t believe that, actually, always to point you back to yourself. It’s always any experiences, any stories that get shared on the show are meant to invite you and to write your own story, and perhaps, just illuminate things to help you find your own map, build your own map, or maybe follow some of the steps that you listen to or hear, or learn here. But again, always, always, always putting it through your own filter, applying your own needs, experiences, lived experience, whatever it is in your life that makes you and I or you and our guests different, always factor that shit in. Don’t use it to limit you, but always consider it. Don’t hold your lived experience, your life, what’s true for you against yourself when me or other people on the show talk about things that might be possible for you, but might be a different route or might be a different path for you to get there. Your path is always gonna be super valid, very important, unique to you, and just as great as anyone else’s path. And I’m really overemphasizing that because kind of like we started out, those same people, the types of people that folks will listen to that are just honestly regurgitating crap that they don’t embody or charging people way too much money for not nearly what they’re actually capable of. That stuff really bothers me so much. And what a lot of those people are doing is trying to act like, “Look at me, look at me, do what I’m doing, this is the way.” And it’s really just a cover up for their own insecurities, right? To portray their life as some kind of ideal when honestly there’s no such thing as an ideal life. Each one of us will have a different version of that and it’ll also shift and change over the course of our lives. So if there’s anything you could ever take from any of these damn podcast episodes, it’s just that point to always remember, there’s good, valuable stuff here, but your life is good and valuable and important just as much as anyone else that’s on a platform or that has a platform. So always be weaving this stuff in with just as much reverence and respect, and inspiration for yourself as everybody else. Cool?

So again, another way of putting that is we’re never gonna be one of those communities that encourages people to be like the leaders of it. We want all of you to be your truest, your wisest, your wildest selves. And again, that’s gonna be a unique experience for everybody, so I hope to always be giving you that reminder through everything I do, everything we create, every episode of the podcast, all of our guests, and things like that. So just a big shout out and a big thank you to all of you for all your birthday notes, especially for Marjolaine, my Community Manager for starting that thread in the Wild Soul Sacred Body Community, for everyone who left comments on that thread, just reminding me how we do things and what we’re here for, and that it works. It really frigging works. And by the way, if you’re someone looking for a no-bullshit, like very grounded type of spiritual community to connect, to have sisterhood, and to do your healing work in, and you’re not a member of our community, you might wanna check it out. You might really like it. And you can find that information at untameyourself.com/WSSB or again, go to the show notes, untameyourself.com/400 and there will be a link there for that.

As for where the show is going this Fall, I have a new opening question if you’ve been a longtime listener, you know, every year or so, or sometimes every season or so, I change up the question that I open the episode with. And if you’re new here, I don’t script these episodes. When I do solos, I’ll make myself notes sometimes because I have a tendency to get distracted and go off on tangents. And so, when I make myself notes it’s just so I don’t lose my train of thought. But when I interview people, there’s just like this one anchoring question that I like to ask at the beginning, and then everything else kind of flows from there. Here and there, depending on the guests there might be some specific stuff I wanna ask them, but there’s not like a format or a formula that I follow or like a checklist for our interviews. They tend to be very organic, sometimes winding, very deep conversations with people, which is super, super fun for us. So this Fall, my opening question for people is gonna be, “What brings you joy?” Over the years, some of the other questions have been, “What do you love about being a woman or a man?” Or whoever, whatever is the gender of the person I’m interviewing. And actually, one of the reasons I shifted away from that is because I didn’t wanna be asking a gendered question. I’ve asked people how their bodies feel to also remind our listeners to be checking in with their bodies and see how our guests do it. I’ve asked people what their relationship with God is like what they call God, how they commune with the divine. That was really fun. And so, now we’re gonna focus on joy for a while because that’s just something, since I moved to Miami that I’ve been noticing, having much more joy in my life by nature of being fed by the environment where I live, having more community here, getting back into dancing after the pandemic, when I couldn’t for a while, all these things that just layered joy into my life.

And if you listened to last week’s episode, episode number 399, “My Sacred Slut Summer” and I’m also getting all this joy from these beautiful lover friends that I have in my life now. And it’s just booing everything else in my life. And I really believe that no matter how much shitty stuff is going on in the the world or in our own lives, it is so so important to prioritize joy, to make room for joy, to make room for celebration, even when we’re grieving or suffering in any way, whether it’s physically, mentally, or emotionally, even a tiny sliver of joy is available to us in our darkest, in our hardest moments and going after it is actually one of the most liberatory things that you could do. So one of the ways we liberate ourselves from oppressive systems, limiting beliefs, intergenerational trauma, family patterns, and anything else you wanna get free from is creating lives that just don’t make room for those things to grow or to fester anymore, that crowd those things out. It’s a big energetic shift and that’s different from spiritual bypassing, by the way. I wanna make this distinction because not leaving room for it in your life is not bypassing it. Because by curating and crafting, and intentionally putting your life together and making certain choices that will add up over time, so you can have much more of the experiences that you want, rather than all these experiences that you don’t want. At no point, does that process pretend that shitty stuff isn’t happening. And that’s what spiritual bypassing is about, to use your spiritual tools to bypass reality. So what I’m talking about is we work with reality to get ourselves to a place where the reality we’re experiencing, just doesn’t leave a lot of room for the shitty stuff. And again, doesn’t mean shitty stuff won’t happen but when it does, because so many other things in our life are good and feel good, and are at a higher frequency, and a higher vibration, the shitty stuff, which, like what an all-encompassing term for everything, right? Just the shitty stuff, you know? Put that in air quotes, if you want, you know what I mean. It just can’t stick. It just can’t hold. It just can’t go as deep or fester the way it used to ’cause there’s nothing for it to really like root into, the way it used to be able to. So in the name of joy, I just wanna invite you and remind you that it’s available and it’s important.

Now, something else I wanna talk about before we wrap up the episode, this is just a shorty today, is I wanna say something about holy consistency. This is a term I made up in 2017 or 2018. It’s when we allow ourselves to be consistent with things that matter to us, and define consistency on our own terms. And the reason I wanted to bring this up on episode number 400 is because of this podcast is one of the things I’ve been able to be most consistent with, not just in my business over the last decade, but in my whole frigging life. And I’ve talked about holy consistency before, but it always bears repeating because consistency doesn’t look the same for everyone. It’s about finding your own rhythm. So for example, I pray every day. I always say some prayers in the morning. Sometimes, I pray throughout the day and sometimes I pray before I go to bed, but always, always in the morning, and the prayers aren’t always the same every day, all the time either. Now, just because the prayers aren’t always the same or I don’t say them at the same time every day, or some days I pray in the afternoon and the evening and some days I don’t, doesn’t mean my prayer practice isn’t consistent. My prayer practice is also one of the most consistent things in my life. It’s about the reps. It’s about the repetition, right? Consistency doesn’t require perfection. It doesn’t need to be perfectly organized or systematized. It doesn’t have to be the same thing all the time. Holy consistency is about consistency of effort and finding the effort that works for you based on the season, the phase, or the cycle of your own life. So showing up is a form of consistency, how you show up for yourself, how you show up to things. And consistency, the things that we are able to be consistent with in our life and have that holy consistency energy around, then it becomes like a ritual or like a devotional practice. And that also is something, just like joy which I mentioned earlier, which can create this really beautiful foundational energy in your life that makes it much harder to suffer. And we’re not here to suffer. We’re here to have very full, very beautiful lives, all right?

So we have an amazing lineup of guests for the Fall. We will be here every week on Mondays as always, until we take our winter break starting December 19th. So I hope you’ll stick around for every episode. Share them up. Tell your friends, tag me on social media when you listen, let me know your favorite parts. You could always shoot us emails, a “Hello” at untameyourself.com, love hearing from you. Thank you so much, especially to our longtime, super loyal listeners, like our rider dies. I appreciate you all so, so much. For those of you who are newer, I hope you love it. Thank you so much also for listening. And again, any time that you give us by listening to this show is so special and so meaningful to me. So again, a million, a million, a million a million thank yous and here’s to the next 400 episodes.
